यदमी दशन्ति दशनाः रसना तत्स्वादमनुभवति ।

प्रकृतिरियं विमलानां क्लिश्यन्ति यदन्यकार्येषु ॥ - सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार

మనము జీవితములో పరిశీలనా దృష్టి అలవరచుకొనుట మిక్కిలి అవసరము. అది ఉన్నవాడే ఎంతో అనుభావసారమును పొందగలడు. అదేముంది, ఇదేముంది అని తలచి తాత్సారము చేసేవానివద్ద మాత్రము  ఏమీ ఉండదు. సమయానికి ఉపయోగపడవలసిన బుద్దికూడా అందుబాటులో ఉండదు. పై శ్లోకములోని సునిశిత పరిశీలనను గమనించండి.

తినుటకు నోటిలోవేసుకొన్న పదార్థమును మనసు కోరినంతసేపూ పళ్ళు నమిలి దానిని నాలుకకు అందజేస్తే అది ఆహా ఓహో అని లొట్టలు వేసుకొంటూ చప్పరించి రసమును బాగా ఆస్వాదించి మ్రింగి,పిప్పిని పారవేయవలసి వస్తే పారవేస్తుంది. నిజానికి ఈ పనిలో మొత్తము కష్టమంతా పలువరసదే! కానీ నాలుకను చూచి ఈర్ష్యపడదు. మళ్ళీ నమలవలసి వచ్చినా అదే ఉత్సాహముతో నములుతాయి.

శ్రేష్ఠులైనవారు కోడా అదేవిధముగా స్వార్థము కొరకు ఎపనినీ చేయరు. చేసే పనిలో భాగమును ఆశించారు. తేనెటీగలు తాము చేర్చిన మధువును ఎవరికో వదిలి తమ దారిన తాము పోతాయి. ఈ చిన్న వాస్తవమును అర్థము చేసుకొనగలిగితే జీవితము సుఖముగా సాగుతుంది. కారణము ఆ మనసులో ఈర్ష్యాద్వేషములుండవు.

దంత పంక్తి జూడు తానెంత సేపైన

నమిలిసారమిచ్చు నాల్కకంత

जिस चीज को दांतों से चबाया जाता है, उसका स्वाद जीभ से मिलता है लेकिन दांतों को नहीं ! दूसरों के उपकार में सज्जन अपना तुष्टि या तोष पाते हैं l - यह निर्मल आत्माओं की प्रकृति है।

दांतों के काम भोजन को चबाना है। यह अपनी भूमिका भी बखूबी निभाती है। लेकिन फिर, यह कभी भी उस भोजन का स्वाद नहीं लेता है जो इसे चबाने में मदद करता है! जीभ जो वास्तव में भोजन चबाने में मदद नहीं करती, हालांकि स्वाद के हर कण का आनंद लेता है!

ऐसी नेक और निर्मल आत्माओं की प्रकृति ही यह है। जैसे दाँत जीभ को भोजन का स्वाद चखने में मदद करते हैं, वैसे ही वे दूसरों की भलाई के लिए, बिना किसी निहित स्वार्थ के, प्रयास करते हैं। उन्हें अपने कार्यों से पूरी तरह से कोई भी भौतिक लाभ नहीं मिलता है, लेकिन वे अपने हर कार्य को अंजाम देने के लिए अथक प्रयास करते हैं! ये नेक आत्माएँ किसीभी हालत में समाज सेवा में ही जुटे रहते हैं।

यदि प्रत्येक और हर व्यक्ति अपने आसपास के लोगों के लिए स्वार्थरहित योगदान  देने का प्रयास करता है, तो हमारा, अद्भुत समाज बनसकता है! यदि उस तरह से कार्य करने में असमर्थ हैं, तो कम से कम ऐसी महान आत्माओं के मार्ग में बाधाएं नहीं डालनी चाहिए । ऐसे लोगों का समाज को यही एक सेवा मानाजासकता है l

yadamī daśanti daśanāḥ rasanā tatsvādamanubhavati ।

prakṛtiriyaṃ vimalānāṃ kliśyanti yadanyakāryeṣu ॥- subhāṣitaratnabhāṇḍāgāra

The taste of that which is chewed by the teeth is enjoyed by the tongue!  Anguish over the benefaction of others - this is the nature of the impeccable souls.

One of the job descriptions of the teeth is to chew food.  It does its role ardently too.  But then, it never ever gets to taste the food that it helped chew!  The tongue which didn't really aid in the chewing of the food gets to enjoy every bit of the flavor though!

Such is the nature of noble, impeccable souls.  Just as teeth aid the tongue to taste the food, they strive with their entire being for the betterment of others, without any vested interest for themselves.  They get absolutely no material benefit out of their actions, but they tirelessly give their best for every action they execute!  These noble souls are the very reason that we have a working society.

If each and every person strives to give their best for those around, what a wonderful society ours would be!  If unable to function that way, one should at least not pose impediments or throw hurdles in the path of such great souls.  That in itself would be a small benefaction that they offer to society.
