శ్రీయుతులు అరుణాచలం గారు. వీరు M.A. Ph.D, Dip in German,
FNA Sc., Founder Vice Chancellor నేను M.Sc., చదివేటప్పుడు మా Mathematics Professor. వారి కళ్ళలో
కాంతి, కంటియద్దముల వాడి, మోములో
నిర్మలత్వము, వ్యక్తిలో గాంభీర్యము, నేను
మనో ఫలకమునందు చూచే ఆయన రూపము. నేటికీ ఎంత ఆవ్యాజ ప్రేమ, వాత్సల్యము
కలిగిన వారిని హృదయములో ఆరాధించుట తప్ప నేనేమి ఇచ్చుకోగలను . ఆయన అటు గణితము లోనూ,
ఒక మహోన్నత అధికారి గాను (కుప్పం ద్రవిడ విశ్వవిద్యాలయపు మొదటి వైస్
– ఛాన్సలర్), వాటిని మించి ఆంధ్రములోను అసమాన పాండిత్యము
గలిగిన ఆయన చేత బూనిన ప్రతి పనిలోనూ అగ్రగణ్యుడు. నా చదువు ముగిసి, ఉద్యోగము ముగిసి, నాకు 65 సంవత్సరములు
వచ్చిన పిదప వారిని తిరిగి కలియుట జరిగింది. ఎంతటి అభిమానము ఎంతటి వాత్సల్యము. ఆయన
నా పాలిట గతి మారని చెట్టు నీడ ఆయన అండ నేనెన్నటికీ వీడ.

వీరు తెలుగులో అనేక
పద్యకావ్యములు వ్రాసిన కవి పుంగవులు. ఆయన ఎంత గొప్పవాడో అంత నిగర్వి. ఆయన గూర్చి
అత్యంత మేధో వర్గములలో తప్ప అన్యులకు తెలిసే అవకాశము తక్కువ. అటువంటి ఒక మేధావికి,
మహానుభావునికి నేను శిష్యుడనగుటయే నేను జన్మ జన్మాంతరమున చేసుకొన్న
మహాపుణ్య ప్రతిఫలము. ఆయనను గుర్తు చేసుకొన్నపుడల్లా ఆంద్ర మహాభారతము లోని విదుర
నీతి లోని “ధనమును విద్యయు వంశంబును.. సజ్జనులైన వారి కడకువ యును వినయము నివియ
తెచ్చు నుర్వీనాథా ! “అన్న పద్యమే గుర్తుకు వస్తుంది. అన్ని విధములా భగవంతుని
అనుగ్రహము పొందిన వారిని గూర్చి సవినయముగా పది మందికి తెలుపుట తప్ప వారికి నేనేమి
సమర్పించుకొన గలను. అందుకే వారిని గూర్చిన ఈ క్రింది వివరములు :
Prof. P.V. Arunachalam Garu
(Bio-Data in Brief)
Puduru Viswanatha Arunachalam was
born at Karvetinagaram, Chittoor District Andhra Pradesh in 1935. After
schooling at Karvetnagar, he did intermediate course (1951-53) and B.A.
(Mathematics) (1953-55) in Sri Venkateswara College, Tirupati. Later he joined
Department of Mathematics headed by Prof. R. Vaidyanatha Swamy, Sri
Venkateswara University, Tirupati, in 1955, and got M.A. degree, securing first
class with first rank in the year 1957.
He was Lecturer in Mathematics in
A.M Jain College, Madras and Pachaiyappa’s College, Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu,
before joining Sri Venkateswara University as Lecturer, 1960.
During 1966-68 he was a research
scholar in I.I.T. Madras, for Doctoral Degree under the guidance of Prof. S.D.
Nigam. During 1969-77 he was Reader and later got promoted as Professor of
Applied Mathematics. He specialized in Applied Mathematics, trained many
research scholars and a few are still working. He has published several
research papers. He has authored/edited several text books for School, College
and University students of Mathematics. He published more than 145 popular
articles on Mathematics, Science and Education. His hobbies are poetry writing
in Telugu and other literary activities.
Besides teaching and research, he
served the University in various capacities, till he retired as Principal of
S.V.University college of Arts, Science & Commerce- May 1995. He was
Controller of examinations; Local Sectional Secretary, ISCA; Dean, School of
Mathematical and Physical Sciences; Dean, Faculty of Science; Warden
S.V.University college for men, Secretary, World University Service; Member,
Board of Management; Principal, University College; Member, Board of Governors,
Member, Executive Council, Sri Venkateswara University and so on.
He got several awards and honors:
1 He was a Fulbright Scholar,
University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.
2 He got elected as a Fellow of the
National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.
3 He got Best Teacher Award

4 Telugu Academy Award (1988)
5 Achievement Award from US based
TANA-New York (1993).

University. He was holding additional charge of Vice-Chancellor of Sri
Padmavathi Mahila University. He was Sectional President, Mathematics for the
87th Session of Indian Science Congress – 2000. . He became Life Member of
Association for Improvement of Mathematics Teaching- Kolkata and was its vice
president for three terms He was nominated as Member, UGC Advisory Committee of
the DSA (Mathematics) Programme, Jadavpur University- Calcutta. Elected
President of the Indian Mathematical Society for the year 2001-2002. He is one
of the Founding Members of the Gandhi Bhavan Trust, Tirupati.
Got elected as Council Member once
and Executive Committee Member twice of the Indian Science Congress
Association, during the year 2005- 2008. Prof. P.V. Arunachalam is presently
the Charter President of the Greater Tirupati Rotary Club and is associated
with several educational institutions as Consultant, Advisor, and Committee
Member and so on. As one of the editors he took active part in the preparation
of Text Books in Mathematics for the Junior Colleges in the State of Andhra
Pradesh (during 2007-2009). He edited besides contributing an article “The book
– The Great Philosophers of India” Published by the Authors House USA.
The Friendship Forum of India, New
Delhi felicitated and presented him the Certificate of Excellence during June
2007.
